It looks like Brock Lesnar will be Cody Rhodes first big match after the WrestleMania 39 debacle.
At the WWE’s biggest event of the year, Cody Rhodes lost in the main event of the second night to Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, Roman Reigns
The loss came thanks to interference from The Bloodline, with Solo Sikoa’s Samoan Spike, plus a big Spear from The Tribal Chief, putting an end to Cody’s title hopes.
However, after Brock Lesnar attacked him before the main event of the Raw-After-WrestleMania, The American Nightmare will look to book a match against The Beast before shifting his focus back to Roman Reigns and his set of world title belts.
Brock Lesnar vs Cody Rhodes
Cody Rhodes vs Brock Lesnar could be the main event of Backlash 2023, even if the setup for the bout was thoroughly stupid.
Cody Rhodes came out of Raw looking like a massive loser. He entered Monday Night Raw looking forlorn, declaring Roman Reigns “the better competitor”, despite very clearly cheating to win the main event of WrestleMania.
Cody did later say, “I had you”, but the damage was already done. He wasn’t the better competitor, he cheated to win!
Cody then asked Roman Reigns for a rematch for the titles.
Obviously this request was denied. Cody has no right to face the champion again. If he had came in, guns blazing and tried to fight the Bloodline for cheating him, maybe Triple H would have been forced to give him another title match.
However, Cody Rhodes entered Raw so meekly, he had no authority over the situation. However, he did suggest a tag team match, which seemed a bit of a cop out, but Roman accepted it.
However, he gave the stipulation that whoever joined Cody couldn’t challenge him for the world title anymore. This suited Brock Lesnar just fine, who was already banned from facing The Tribal Chief again.
However, before the match took place, Brock Lesnar turned heel on Cody Rhodes, instead of wrestling his first Raw match since 2002.
This looks to be setting up Cody Rhodes vs Brock Lesnar at Backlash 2023, set to take place in Puerto Rico.
This also seems to indicate that Roman Reigns will not be at the event, seemingly taking even more time off from the ring, after his extended leave last year.
This is why Cody Rhodes should be champion. Sure, he could beat Brock Lesnar, which would be the biggest win of his career – but he should have beaten Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39.
