WWE Favourites To Sign Jay White After New Japan Departure

Jay White looks to be set to sign with the WWE in the next few weeks, with Triple H’s company the favourite to sign the former New Japan Pro Wrestling star. The former IWGP Heavyweight Champion recently losts two “Loser Leaves” matches, falling to both Hikuleo and Eddie Kingston in seperate New Japan shows.

At NJPW Battle In The Valley, former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Jay White lost to Eddie Kingston in a Loser Leaves NJPW match. This followed a “Loser Leaves Japan” match at New Beginnings In Osaka, where the Bullet Club leader was pinned by Hikuleo and kicked out of the country for good.

Rumours of where he will go next has fallen into two camps. Some claim Jay White is signing for WWE, debuting possibly at Wrestlemania in a similar fashion to Cody Rhodes in 2022. He is a fantastic wrestler and a great character, as well as having some of the top promo skills in the world. He would be a huge get for the WWE and would be put into the main event of the show as soon as he signed for the company.

The other side of the coin claims that Jay White is not signing for WWE, but joining up with AEW. He appeared previously in AEW in 2022, debuting in February. Tony Khan claimed a “Forbidden Door” signing would be appearing at the show. He meant this to mean Keith Lee’s debut, but with the Forbidden Door implying New Japan’s involvement, he pulled a last minute move to secure Jay White for his AEW debut and a match against Trent on Rampage.

White also appeared as the Forbidden Door pay per view. Then the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, he defended his championship in a Fatal 4 Way match against Kazuchika Okada, Adam Cole and Hangman Page. He won the matcha after smartly calling an audible and pinning Adam Cole. It was an anti-climactic ending, but necessary as Cole had sufffered a huge concussion during the bout and could not compete.

His history with AEW does lend credence to the idea that he’ll sign for the company. However, recent reports by Dave Meltzer have suggested that WWE, not AEW, are favourite to sign Switchblade now his time in NJPW is done.

According to Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer, WWE is “certainly the favorite” to sign Jay White, using the logic that he would be able to wrestle for New Japan if he joined AEW and therefore would not have needed to lose any “Loser Leaves Japan” matches.

“Nobody in WWE has confirmed Jay White coming in, but they are certainly the favorite. One would think if White was going to AEW, he’d be able to work big shows with New Japan and would continue to do so, but they wouldn’t do the loser leaves for good stipulation.”

Jay White would be the fourth Bullet Club leader to sign for WWE. If he joins Triple H in WWE, he will be added to a list including Finn Balor, Karl Anderson and AJ Styles of former Bullet Club leaders currently signed to the WWE. Former leader Kenny Omega is also rumoured to be joining the company soon, although nothing is confirmed yet.
