The Best Friends are one of the most popular tag team in AEW and one of the longest running tag teams in the division.
They have been a part of AEW since day one, both as a due and as a stable. Many wrestlers have competed as part of the stable, although the original duo in the group were Chuck Taylor and Trent Beretta.
They were the original Best Friends tag team and competed as a team even prior to the formation of AEW in 2019.
They tagged together all over the world, most notably in PWG, ROH and even in Japan for NJPW. It was rumoured they were going to be a top team in the promotion, had they not signed for AEW.
Chuck Taylor has professed to being a friend of legend Kazuchika Okada, with both men being members of the Chaos faction in Japan.
Rocky Romero later inducted the rest of the group into the faction, before an episode of AEW Dynamite in 2022.
The wrestlers who have wrestled as part of the Best Friends in AEW are;
- Chuck Taylor
- Trent Beretta (Formerly Trent?)
- Orange Cassidy
- Wheeler Yuta
- Danhausen
- Kris Statlander
- Rocky Romero
Whilst all of these wrestlers have been a part of the group, the trio mainly referred to are Chuck Taylor, Trent Beretta and Orange Cassidy. They reached the semi-finals of the AEW Trios Championship Tournament and even wrestled Death Triangle for the vacant title on AEW Dynamite.
However, the name Best Friends predates Cassidy’s inclusion in the group.
Chuck Taylor and Trent Beretta revealed in an interview recently about how Best Friends got their name and the original member of the group who is no longer even mention, let alone tagging with them in AEW.
Best Friends in AEW
On a recent episode of “Drinks with Johnny” on Youtube, the trio of Chuck Taylor, Trent Beretta and Orange Cassidy were interviewed by Avenged Sevenfold bassist Johnny Christ about how their tag team came to be.
He asked them why they are called Best Friends in AEW, with Chuck and Trent explaining how the name came from a 2013 PWG show, whilst Cassidy stayed quiet and in character.
Chuck Taylor explained’ “In 2013, we were thrown together in PWG. On the third night of BOLA, all the loser are thrown together in a tag. The first time it was 3 (a three-on-three tag team match). The third was Joey (Ryan) – Lord Voldermort. I don’t want to talk about him, he sucks.”
Trent then jumped in an added “It was just the three of us and we decided to call ourselves best friends. For that night we were best friends, then the next night we were booked together as best friends.
“We barely even knew each other.” Taylor finally added, revealing the humor behind the name. They decided on the name “Best Friends” due to the fact that they didn’t know each other, so it would be funny to tell everyone they were really close when in fact they weren’t.
Trent talked about this more on a recent episode of Talk is Jericho, revealing that because Chuck Taylor was such a big name on the indies, it really helped his career post-WWE.
