What did you give your AEW Double or Nothing 2022 star ratings?

AEW Double or Nothing 2022 is in the books and it was one of the biggest shows in AEW history. The show featured dream match after dream match and saw championships won and retained in fantastic matches all across the card.

We also saw the first ever winners of the Owen Hart Cup crowned but both a men and women’s winner decided in huge matches on the AEW Double or Nothing 2022 card.

Matches on AEW Double or Nothing 2022 card include CM Punk taking on Adam Page for the AEW Championship, the Hardy Boys taking on The Young Bucks and Jade Cargill defending her TBS Championship against the Dark Order’s Anna Jay.

In this article we will look at all the matches that took place and see the AEW Double or Nothing 2022 star ratings and match ratings given to these matches.

The AEW Double or Nothing 2022 star ratings will be taken from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter and will be given by famed wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer. Dave Meltzer rates wrestling matches on a five-star scale (although the scale now goes up to seven stars, since the best WCW matches broke the scale in the late 1980s).

Meanwhile the AEW Double or Nothing 2022 match ratings will be taken from a wrestling match aggregation site called Cagematch.net. Cagematch allows fans to ascribe a match a score out of ten and then gives that match an average score. It is a useful tool to see what matches the fans rated or didn’t rate and we will be using it to give the match ratings for AEW Double or Nothing 2022.

AEW Double or Nothing 2022

HookHausen vs Tony Nese & ‘Smart’ Mark Sterling

The first match of the night for AEW Double or Nothing 2022 on the pre-show saw Hook and Danhausen take on the duo of Tony Nese and “Smart” Mark Sterling.

The match went a little over five minutes and the bulk of it saw Sterling and Nese working over Danhausen, who eventually hit the hot tag for Hook to clean house.

Hook then tagged in Danhausen to get the win by pinning Sterling for Danhausen’s first win in AEW.

Match Rating – 5.23

Star Rating – 2 stars

Jade Cargill vs Anna Jay (TBS Championship)

In a short match that was only used to put over Jade Cargill and debut Athena (former Ember Moon), Cargill defeated Anna Jay. The match was unimpressive and would have been more suited to the pre-show, and got the lowest AEW Double or Nothing 2022 match rating of all, and it probably won’t even get a star rating.

Match Rating – 3.75

Star Rating – 1.75 stars

Samoa Joe vs Adam Cole (Owen Hart Cup Final)

A predictable match that is basically every single Adam Cole match in AEW, Cole won the Owen Hart Cup. He pinned Samoa Joe after a weak shining wizard had even JR confused that it was a finisher and led to an anticlimactic end to a great idea for a tournament

Match Rating – 5.92

Star Rating – 3.5 stars

Ruby Soho vs Britt Baker (Owen Hart Cup Final)

Despite being player out to the ring by Rancid, Ruby Soho fell to the unrelenting might of Britt Baker as she was crowned the first ever female winner of the Owen Hart Cup.

The match lasted less than 15 minutes and was one of the lowest rated matches of the night. The crowd seem bored on Baker in recent months and Ruby Soho was booed heavily on Rampage after beating Kris Statlander in the semi finals of the tournament.

It was an okay match but not befitting of the great Owen Hart in his first ever memorial tournament.

Match Rating – 5.66

Star Rating – 3.5 stars

Thunder Rosa vs Serena Deeb (AEW Women’s Championship)

In a match that showcased both women’s immense talents, Thunder Rosa defeated Serena Deeb to keep a hold of her coveted AEW Women’s Championship.

Rosa has been in a rut lately, having wrestled very little if at all since she first won the championship. Meanwhile, Deeb has had the chance weekly to show off her skills on the mic and in the ring and looked likely to take the strap from the champion.

However, Rosa won the match in the best women’s match of the night and remains the AEW Women’s Champion after AEW Double or Nothing 2022

Match Rating – 7.64

Star Rating – 3.5 stars

Jurassic Express vs Team Tazz vs Keith Lee & Swerve Strickland (AEW Tag Team Championship)

In a shocking result, Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus retained their AEW tag team titles. The duo were once again the third best team in their match and did not look good in defeat.

It’s definitely time for the duo to drop the belts and move into the singles division, although they did help put on a great match with a really high AEW Double or Nothing 2022 star rating. A fast paced match which made the challengers look incredible and definitely worth a watch.

Match Rating – 8.17

Star Rating – 4.5 stars

Jericho Appreciation Society vs Eddie Kingston, Santana & Ortiz and Blackpool Combat Club (Anarchy in the Arena Match)

One of the matches of the night was absolutely mental Anarchy in the Arena match between the Jericho Appreciation Society and the team of Eddie Kingston, Santana and Ortiz and the Blackpool Combat club.

It got the highest of the AEW Double or Nothing 2022 match ratings, and was one of the highest rated AEW matches of all time. It got a match rating of 9.47, an incredible rating for this kind of match.

Match Rating – 9.47

Star Rating – 5 stars

House of Black vs Death Triangle

One of the best matches of the night saw PAC, Penta and Rey Fenix take on the spooky trio of Malakai Black, Brody King and Buddy Matthews.

After interference from Julia Hart, Black pinned PAC and officially welcomed hart into the House of Black after a match that wowed fans and got big rating on cagematch.

Match Rating – 8.25

Star Rating – 4.5 stars

The Hardys vs The Young Bucks

The Young Bucks vs The Hardys

A dream match was revisited as the Hardy Boys faced off with The Young Bucks. Two generations of innovative tag team wrestlers were on show as their styles meshed perfectly, although The Hardys moved much slower than in their 2016 encounter.

It was an enjoyable match filled with nostalgia, although the age of the Hardys was apparent. The Young Bucks carried them to a good match which earned a good match rating for AEW Double or Nothing 2022, but may not be one to revisit much into the future.

Match Rating – 6.86

Star Rating – 4 stars

MJF vs Wardlow

AEW Double or Nothing 2022 match card & rumors - Cageside Seats

Despite the incredible build and the interesting antics by MJF in the lead up the show, MJF vs Wardlow was a rather disappointing match.

The pair opened the show with one of AEW Double or Nothing 2022 low match ratings, with only a 6.25 rating. The match lasted 7 minutes and saw Wardlow squash MJF handily, with fans wondering if the Dynamite Diamond Ring holder has one foot out of the door to WWE.

Usually AEW opens with a banger but the AEW Double or Nothing 2022 match ratings certainly say differently for this one.

Match Rating – 6.25

Star Rating – 3 stars

Adam Page vs CM Punk (AEW Championship)

In the main event of Double or Nothing 2022, CM Punk defeated Adam Page for the AEW Championship. It put an end to Page’s legendary reign which lasted 6 months and 6 title defences and makes CM Punk the first wrestler to sign for AEW after Double or Nothing 2019 to hold the title.

The match lasted nearly 30 minutes and was a slow paced and psychological match. CM Punk did everything he could to put Page off his game including hitting him a (very poor) Buckshot Lariat.

The match ended as Adam Page decided against hitting Punk with the AEW Championship before eating a GTS and getting pinned to lose his AEW title.

Match Rating – 8.66

Star Rating – 4.5 stars
