Hangman Adam Page defeats Kenny Omega to become AEW Champion

Hangman Adam Page has completed the journey he started nearly three years ago by becoming AEW Champion. The friend of the Dark Order beat Kenny Omega at AEW Full Gear to win his first singles championship in AEW. He ended Omega’s reign at 346 days, making him the longest reigning AEW Champion of all time.

Page and Hangman’s feud goes back all the way to the start of AEW. Page was earmarked as the first world champion in AEW, but lost to Chris Jericho at AEW All Out for the AEW Championship.

Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks failed to support him during this time, so his resentment for the trio grew. He also won the AEW Tag Team Championships with Omega, but was never secure about their friendship.

Page would cost the Young Bucks a chance at the AEW Team Championships, with the duo taking revenge by costing Page and the Dark Order a shot at both the AEW and Tag Team Championship.

However, the Bucks would seemingly come around to Adam Page in this match. They came out at the end of the match, just as Page was about to put Omega away. They stood back as Page hit the first Buckshot Lariat on Omega.

Then, before the second, Matt Jackson nodded at Hangman, signalling his support for his former friend. Page then hit Omega with the Buckshot, and pinned him for the AEW Championship.

The Dark Order came out to celebrate with Page, offering him a beer. However, he threw away the beer, and hugged his friends instead. He doesn’t need to drink anymore, now he’s accepted his friends into his life.

The match itself was a great match, full of emotion. I’d rate it 4 out of 5 stars.
