Ricky Starks is the new number one contender for the AEW Championship, and will face MJF in three weeks in a match at the third annual AEW: Winter Is Coming.

MJF vs Ricky Starks will headline what is likely to be a big show, which has previously seen Sting make his debut, Kenny Omega winning the AEW Championship and a dream match between Adam Page and Bryan Danielson. This match may not be as star studded as those, but it does feature two stars who will lead AEW forward for the next decade as the two young stars do battle for the AEW Title.

Tonight’s post-Full Gear edition of AEW Dynamite saw Starks defeat Ethan Page in the finals of the AEW World Title Eliminator Tournament. He previously defeated Brian Cage and Lance Archer en route to a final matchup against Ethan Page, and defeated the former Impact Wrestling star in an excellent match on AEW Dynamite.

The title match will be take place at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, TX and will take place on Wednesday 14th December, 2022. It will be MJF’s first AEW Championship, after defeating Jon Moxley at Full Gear 2022 thanks to the help of William Regal.

Ricky Starks has held title gold just once in AEW so far. In 2021, he defeated Brian Cage for the FTW Championship (the title invented by Taz in ECW). He held the belt for over a year before Taz’s son HOOK won the belt, turning Starks face in the process. He has been earmarked as one of the stars of the future in AEW and has garnered comparisons to The Rock in his charisma and potential in the wrestling world.
