Powerhouse Hobbs wants to become the first “African-American AEW World Champion”, AEW star reveals

Powerhouse Hobbs is one of the biggest young stars in AEW and is well on his way to winning his first championship in AEW.

The 31 year old wrestler from California made his AEW on Dark in 2020 and improved so much that he made a huge splash in the Casino Battle Royal at All Out 2020.

Since then, he turned heel to join forces with Taz, Brian Cage and Ricky Starks in Team Taz. Adding Hook to the mix, Team Taz has become one of the most feared stables in AEW and features the FTW Champion Ricky Starks.

However, it is Powerhouse Hobbs who has becoming an AEW Champion in his sights as he reveals his goals over the next few years of his AEW career…

Powerhouse Hobbs AEW Champion

During a recent appearance on the Wrestling Perspective Podcast, Powerhouse Hobbs talked about his time in AEW, including being part of Team Taz, winning the TNT Championship and his goal of being the first ever black AEW Champion.

Ever since his debut as Will Hobbs in AEW, Powerhouse House has aspired to be a top star in the promotion. By aligning himself with Team Taz he hoped to help him reach his potential and unleash the aggression inside him to turn his potential into championships.

However, Powerhouse Hobbs did admit that one day he would have to step out on his own and leave Team Taz if he was to become a top star in AEW and become AEW Champion.

“There’s gonna be a point where I’m gonna have to step away on my own, you know? Who knows when that will happen … I’m having fun, so I don’t know what that next step is gonna be. It’s just gonna happen.”

“What I’m doing now is kind of what I was doing on the independent scene, but now it’s just on a bigger, national, worldwide platform. I’m happy with what I’m doing, it’s me. Of course, being in Team Taz with Ricky Starks and HOOK, and having Taz in our corner, is letting me add my own personal, little seasoning to the mix.”

While Powerhouse Hobbs and Ricky Starks are currently focused on becoming the AEW Tag Team Championship, Hobbs revealed that when he does go out on his own it will be to become the TNT Champion and later the AEW Champion.

He reflected on his dreams and admitted that he wanted to cement his legacy by become the first African-American AEW Champion.

“The task right now is for Ricky Starks and me to beat the living hell out of Jurassic Express and take those tag titles. That’s the goal right now.”

“But eventually, I will be TNT Champion. A personal goal of mine is to be the first African-American AEW World Champion. I know how to fight and I know what it’s like to starve and struggle. Any title I get, it’s gonna be hell for anybody to take that away from me.”

“But I plan on being a big name and being around for a long time. That has always been my goal, ever since I wanted to become a professional wrestler. I want people to remember me and when they say, ‘Oh, who’s the baddest mf’er?’ I want my name to come up.”

Powerhouse Hobbs and Ricky Starks are set to take on both Jurassic Express and Swerve & Keith Lee for the AEW Tag Team Championship at AEW Double or Nothing 2022.
