At AEW Revolution, we moved one step closer to seeing Wardlow TNT Championship glory as he bested five other men to become the “Face of the Revolution” and the #1 contender to the TNT Championship.
It comes after months of Wardlow impressing crowds with his “symphony of powerbombs”, crushing jobbers each week with multiple power bombs whilst being egged on by Shawn Spears. The crowd loved ever moment, and begged for “one more time” whenever he looked like ending his barrage of powerbombs.
Fans were on board for his “Face of the Revolution” ladder match and cheered him throughout. He was the most popular man in the match which featured big AEW stars like Christian Cage and Orange Cassidy. When he powerbombed Ricky Starks onto a ladder and retrieved the giant “Sonic the Hedgehog” ring, the crowd erupted in cheers.
Once Scorpio Sky takes on TNT Champion Sammy Guevara, the winner will take on Wardlow for the TNT Championship on AEW Dynamite, which could be the crowning glory of “Mr Mayhem” in AEW.
That is, unless MJF has any say on a potential Wardlow TNT Championship victory.
Wardlow TNT Championship
MJF and Wardlow have had a complicated relationship so far in AEW. Wardlow is employed by MJF, not AEW, to do his bidding and protect him during his matches. This includes hiding and bringing him his infamous Dynamite Diamond Ring (of which MJF is a three time champion), which he has used multiple times to cheat to win in matches.
However, MJF has become increasingly hostile towards his employee. Wardlow has been on the end of multiple verbal beat downs by MJF, and fans have been waiting patiently for Wardlow to finally snap and teach MJF the lesson he deserves.
Wardlow will face the winner of Scorpio Sky vs Sammy Guevara at the St Patrick’s Day Slam edition of AEW Dynamite on March 16th. That match will be for the TNT Championship, and could mark the first Wardlow TNT Championship run in the short career of “Mr Mayhem”.
With his recent dominant streak, it is likely we will see Wardlow as the next TNT Champion. However, with his devastating loss at the hands of CM Punk partially down to Wardlow’s interference, MJF will no doubt want revenge on his employee.
With the might of The Pinnacle on his side, MJF will no doubt have the firepower to take the TNT Championship opportunity away from Wardlow and make him feel the same level of pain that MJF felt against CM Punk in their Dog Collar Match.
In my view, MJF should do all he can to cost Wardlow his match against Sammy Guevara (I can’t see Sky beating Sammy) and beat him down with Shawn Spears and FTR as his backup. Whilst Wardlow has got over huge with the crowd as a monster powerbombing his way through the roster, MJF will not forget the ultimate betrayal of the man who he has been paying since AEW Dynamite started.
Especially after the MJF promo that shone the light on how he felt CM Punk betrayed him. Wardlow will surely be shown that nobody betrays MJF and expects to get away with it.
It would be great to see a Wardlow TNT Championship run in two weeks time, but surely the story with MJF does not require the TNT Championship. Nor would MJF lower himself to being in the TNT title picture, as he has eyes his on a bigger prize – Adam Page’s AEW Championship.
