Nobody knew that just a few weeks after Wrestlemania 37 they would be seeing Daniel Bryan‘s last match in WWE. The former WWE Champion main evented the biggest show of the year when he took on Edge and Roman Reigns in a blockbuster Triple Threat, but by the next pay-per-view he was gone from the company.

He had built himself up a reputation in WWE as one of the best wrestlers in the world. Everyone he stepped into the ring with, from John Cena to Brock Lesnar to Drew Gulak, was made better by wrestling him and helped put on some incredible matches.

Fans thought they would never see The American Dragon in a WWE ring again after his retirement in 2015. However, he returned to the ring a few years later, winning the WWE Championship and have a second WWE run which rivalled the first for storylines and in-ring matches.

Daniel Bryan’s last WWE match was against Roman Reigns on Smackdown. On April 30, 2021, Daniel Bryan faced Roman Reigns in his last ever WWE match, with the dual stipulation of a title-vs-career match. If Daniel Bryan won, he would become the Universal Champion, but if he lost he would have to leave WWE for good.

Roman Reigns pinned Daniel Bryan in a fantastic match that was rated 4.5 stars by Dave Meltzer. Daniel Bryan gave it his all, trying his best to beat down the champion and left everything he had in the ring against Roman Reigns.

Bryan combined hard hitting strikers with excellent technical ability that had made him a fan-favourite in WWE. He came close to ending Roman Reigns’ year long spell as the World Champion, but could not withstand the Tribal Chiefs’ immense power. He was forced to tap out by Roman Reigns, ending Daniel Bryan’s last match in a humbling defeat.

He would later debut for AEW at All Out 2021, but this was as his real name of Bryan Danielson, as opposed to as Daniel Bryan. Whilst Daniel Bryan’s last WWE match was against Roman Reigns, the career of Bryan Danielson has gone from strength to strength in All Elite Wrestling.
