Cody Rhodes vs Roman Reigns set for WWE Championship Battle

After his Wrestlemania 38 return to WWE, Cody Rhodes has made his goal in WWE clear – to win the WWE Championship. To earn such an accolade, he will have to face off against WWE Champion & Universal Champion Roman Reigns, with Cody Rhodes vs Roman Reigns looking like the biggest match WWE can book at the moment.

Cody Rhodes returned as Seth Rollins surprise opponent at Wrestlemania 38. He was much talked about after leaving AEW, and the former TNT Champion impressed everyone with a match of the night performance to defeat former WWE Champion Seth Rollins.

Meanwhile, Roman Reigns once again faced Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania, and once again the pair disappointed in a sub-par match. The Big Dog did walk out of Wrestlemania 38 with both the WWE & Universal Championships, and will be looking for somebody on both Raw and Smackdown to challenge him.

Cody Rhodes vs Roman Reigns

The main event program of Cody Rhodes vs Roman Reigns seems inevitable, especially after the American Nightmare’s promo on his big return to Monday Night Raw.

In his promo, he talked about his return to WWE and his return at Wrestlemania. He discussed coming back to WWE to achieve the goal that his father Dusty Rhodes could never achieve – win the WWE Championship.

“As I got hip tot he industry I worked up a little courage, I asked him (Cody’s father Dusty Rhodes) “I didn’t know you were champion like Hulk Hogan!”

“He looked at me with the same eyes that Liberty (Cody Rhodes’ young daughter) has, and he said very stern and very patiently.”

“He explained to me that due to champions advantage (in a match against Billy Graham in 1977) he had won the match, but he did not take home the championship belt.”

“So, I’m 8 years old. What’s a boy to do? Right then and there at 8 years old, I knew not what I wanted to do, but what I needed to do. I was going to win the WWE Championship belt.”

I was going to bestow it into the hands of the American Dream Dusty Rhodes and say nobody can take it away from you now.” – Cody Rhodes

Even though he was confronted by Seth Rollins after his emotional speech, it is expected that a Cody Rhodes vs Roman Reigns match will take place once Rhodes defeats Rollins one more time in the ring, potentially at Wrestlemania Backlash 2022.
