Future WWE Hall of Fame Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio are set to be split up in WWE, according to recent reports.

The pair found fame as the first ever father-son duo to win Tag Team Championships in WWE, when they won the Smackdown Tag Team Championships from Dolph Ziggler and Bobby Roode at Wrestlemania Backlash.

Rey Mysterio is one of WWE’s biggest stars and one of the most influential luchadores in wrestling history. Since coming to America with ECW in the 1990s, he has revolutionised cruiserweight wrestling in America and become a champion in WCW and WWE.

Rey Mysterio even had a brief run in New Japan Pro Wrestling, which you can read about by clicking below.

Meanwhile, his son Domink Mysterio is one of WWE’s up-and-coming stars and a second generation star in the WWE. Since his debut at Summerslam 2020, where he was defeated by Seth Rollins in a street fight, Domink Mysterio has come on leaps and bounds, improving in every match he tags with his father in.

However, the tag team of Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio may be coming to an end…

WWE looks set to break up the tag team of Rey and Dominik Mysterio in the coming weeks, after the pair were written off TV in recent weeks.

Dominik Mysterio has not been seen on WWE TV since the Raw after Wrestlemania 38. After he and his father were defeated by Logan Paul and The Miz at Wrestlemania, he suffered defeat again on Raw before suffering at the hands of Veer. The returning wrestler attacked Dominik Mysterio and Rey Mysterio, writing Dominik off TV for the foreseeable future.

Meanwhile, Rey Mysterio has been off TV due to recurring injuries. The former WWE and World Heavyweight Champion has battled various injuries, including knee injuries dating back 20 years, and is having stem cell treatment to help alleviate the problems.

At aged 47 and wrestling for over 30 years, Mysterio’s body has more wear and tear on it than most wrestlers will ever have in their career.

After the pair were written off TV, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reported that WWE have been considering breaking up Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio, putting an end to their tag team after a two year run together.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Meltzer reported that WWE was talking about having the two stars be moved apart, potentially becoming singles stars again.

“There is at least talk of [Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio] not being put together going forward.”

Rey Mysterio is known as a singles star and will have no issues working alone on either the Raw or Smackdown roster.

Meanwhile, it could be sink or swim for Dominik Mysterio, who could be sent down to NXT 2.0 to help improve his skills further and become a main event star in the future.

  1. I think it would do Dominic good to split him up from his dad would give him more experience and a chance to learn from other wrestlers.
