Former WWE Superstar Batista is one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, as well as one of the world’s most popular movie stars in the world.
He has achieved huge success in both wrestling and movies, with his role as Drax the Destroyer in the Marvel movies earning him huge praise.
So, with his incredible success, it seems odd that he would choose a team like Tottenham Hotspur to support.
Batista Supports Tottenham Hotspur
Batista revealed that he supports Tottenham Hotspur in the football, owing to his relationship with a Spurs fan on set of one of his hit movies.
He spoke about his friend Pat, who was one of his make-up artists on the first Guardians of the Galaxy movies.
Given the extensive make-up he undertook to portray “Drax the Destroyer” in the movie, it makes sense that he grew close with his make-up artists.
The former WWE Champion revealed in an interview with Football Daily that Spurs were rather forced upon him, with Pat gifting him a Tottenham shirt with the name “Drax” emblazoned on the back.
Batista wore the shirt the next day on British football morning show “Soccer AM”, solidifying his support for the North London club.
“On the first guardians, I have a friend of mine named Pat, my make up artists.” Batista said, in an interview with Football Daily.
“One day, he asked me ‘Do you have a team?’ and I said ‘No, I don’t’ and he said ‘Well, you do now!’ The next day he came in with a Tottenham Hotspur Jersey, with Drax on the back.”
“I wore it that day, and that’s how it happened. I wore it on Soccer AM the next day. And I never lived it down. I got beaten mercilessly!”
Batista has been a Spurs fan ever since, and has been spotted at the New White Hart Lane on a couple of occasions.
Batista is not the only WWE superstar to support Spurs – Finn Balor is lifelong Tottenham supporting, thanks to two English legends of the game.
Hamish is a writer and podcaster and wrestling fan who is a key part of the Atletifo team.
After playing countless hours of WrestleMania X8 on the Gamecube, he discovered Rey Mysterio getting his head crushed by The Great Khali, and thus a love for professional wrestling was born.
He is also a Media Graduate, as well as writing for multiple sites about Premier League football and the culture of Wales – his home country.
