After the successful introduction of the TNT Title in 2020, AEW sought to create a secondary title for the women’s division too.
Since AEW Dynamite moved to TBS in late-2021, the decision was to create a TBS Championship, exclusively for the AEW women’s roster to compete for.
The belt was originally sought to be a secondary title, but has quickly grown in prestige as equal (sometimes even surpassing) in legitimacy as the AEW Women’s Championship.
