Rumours of Cesaro signing for AEW has crept up ever since the Swiss Superman was released by WWE earlier this year. Since his release, he has been quiet on his future but now a number of AEW’s stars have come out of the woodwork and given their views on Cesaro joining AEW.
The former United States Champion’s contract with WWE expired in February 2022. WWE were keen to extend his deal, but Cesaro opted to leave the company and keep his options open in wrestling. His last match was a four minute loss to Happy Corbin on Smackdown, but that hasn’t quelled any interest in the Swiss Cyborg in recent months.
With reports of Cesaro’s price being too high to wrestle in independent companies, the stage is set for Tony Khan to swoop in for the former WWE, ROH and PWG wrestler, and make Cesaro AEW’s newest big-name signing.
While AEW does have a bloated roster of stars at the moment, space could soon open up for the Swiss in either AEW or ROH. AEW are expecting a mass exodus of stars moving to the ROH roster from the AEW roster, opening up space for Cesaro to sign for AEW and become the main event star he was destined to be.
One former WWE star is excited by the prospect of Cesaro in AEW and admits he would do almost anything to get the Swiss Cyborg on the show…
Cesaro to AEW
Former WWE star William Regal has spoken recently about how much he wants to see Cesaro (now stylized as CSRO) joining the AEW roster.
Regal currently manages the trio of Bryan Danielson, Jon Moxley and Wheeler Yuta in the Blackpool Combat Club and could be angling to add Cesaro into the group as well.
In the most recent edition of The Sessions with Renee Paquette podcast, Regal spoke candidly about which superstars he views as the biggest loss by WWE in recent years. He named Bryan Danielson along with Cesaro as two of WWE’s top stars and ones that can carry the company on their backs if needs be.
“There’s only four people that I have ever gone to Mr.McMahon or to Triple H with who I have said … I put my reputation on the line.”
“I can’t tell you if they’re going to draw you any money, but they are incredible at what they do, they are professional, they will always be there, they will represent the company well. Everything you could want out of a person and two of them were Bryan [Danielson] and Claudio [Cesaro]. That’s how much I think of [Cesaro].”
William Regal then revealed what exactly he would do to get Cesaro into AEW. He told Renee that he would “sacrifice some of the money from that roster” in order to free up funds to sign Cesaro. High praise from one of wrestling’s top minds and one that will surely make Cesaro think about joining him in AEW.
“I just think he needs to do whatever he feels is right for his family,” Regal said. “If my words mean anything, again, it’s not about what you think is right or wrong.”
“If nothing else, to have the stabilizing influence of a 100% professional person who everybody can look up to and watch and learn from, and everything you could possibly want to be as a professional, dresses like a star, as a human being, speaks five languages perfectly, can represent your company anywhere.”
“That’s before we even get into the ring. If you don’t think he’s [good enough], then maybe there’s something wrong somewhere. If I had any clout anywhere as far as that, I would sacrifice some of the money from that roster — it may sound horrible — to get him. That’s how much he would bring to any locker room.”
Cesaro would be a star in AEW if he signs, as long as he does not get lost in the shuffle as stars like Andrade El Idolo and Malakai Black have done in recent months.
William Regal also knows Cesaro very well. William Regal vs Cesaro was the last televised match of Regal’s career and was one of the best retirement matches you’ll see involving someone not named Shawn Michaels.
Wheeler Yuta has also come out in huge support of Cesaro joining AEW. He also would like to see Cesaro joining himself, Jon Moxley, Bryan Danielson and William Regal as part of the Blackpool Combat Club, with Yuta saying that “he would fit in” with the group as one of the world’s best wrestlers.
During an online FaceBook meet and greet for K&S WrestleFest, Wheeler Yuta said’
“Cesaro’s awesome,”. “I would support him in any role, anywhere I can see him wrestle. He is incredible but I think he would fit in well with us [in the Blackpool Combat Club], he’s got history with Regal as well.”
If the Swiss Cyborg does join AEW, he would be a perfect fit for the Blackpool Combat Club. However, he could also be a valuable asset to the AEW tag division, as he showed himself to be a top tag team wrestler in partnerships with Tyson Kidd, Jack Swagger and Sheamus during his spell in WWE.
