Who do you think will win the match between Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley?

AEW recently announced that the card for their upcoming AEW Dynamite Quake by the Lake 2022 special will feature an AEW Championship match between Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley.

The pair face off for the second time for the AEW Championship. In the first battle in AEW in February 2020, Jon Moxley defeated Chris Jericho to become the second ever AEW Champion. This match took place at AEW Revolution 2020 and was the last big show before the country shut down for the COVID pandemic.

In the match, Jon Moxley forced Le Champion to stay down for the three second count after a Paradigm Shift to the then-Champion. Jericho and his Inner Circle had been attacking Moxley for weeks prior, even blinding him with a spike to the eye that forced him to wear an eyepatch for weeks on end (even in matches in New Japan Pro Wrestling).

The pair had been kept apart in AEW after the first Jon Moxley vs Chris Jericho match, until Eddie Kingston brought them back together. Kingston began a feud with Jericho and the Jericho Appreciation Society, bringing in Moxley and his team, the Blackpool Combat Club, to help him in the fight against the group. This culminated in an Anarchy in the Arena match as well as a Blood & Guts match, which both teams one a match apiece.

While the feud continued and finally ended with a brutal Barbed Wire Everywhere match, Jon Moxley moved on to the AEW Championship. He defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi at Forbidden Door to become the interim AEW Champion, due to CM Punk’s foot injury causing him to miss months of TV just a week after becoming the AEW Champion.

Meanwhile, a big win over Eddie Kingston moved Chris Jericho up the ranks in AEW, setting up a match vs Jon Moxley at the next AEW special episode of AEW Dynamite, named Quake at the Lake. Chris Jericho vs Jon Moxley is likely to main event the show, but could open it instead, following on from this weeks Dynamite where Moxley defeated Rush in the first match of the show to retain his AEW Championship.

It was after this match that The Wizard confronted the AEW interim Champion and set up the title rematch that fans have been angling for some over 2 years now.

Chris Jericho confronted Jon Moxley on AEW Dynamite, along with the rest of his JAS team. Following a successful Moxley title defence against Rush, Jericho made his entrance to invoke his rematch for the AEW Championship, two years after losing the title in spectacular fashion.

The pair went back and forth on the microphone, with Moxley claiming he was the “real” AEW Champion and to avoid the word “interim” in future. The pair went back and forth on the microphone before the challenge was accepted by the Champion.

Jon Moxley vs Chris Jericho comes just 2 weeks after Moxley’s title defence against Rush, and only a 6 weeks after his historic victory over Hiroshi Tanahashi at Forbidden Door, on June 26th. At the event, Jon Moxley became the only man to hold the AEW Championship twice and will soon defend against the first ever holder of the crown.

Chris Jericho vs Jon Moxley will take place at AEW Dynamite: Quake by the Lake on Wednesday August 10th, 2022 and will be for the interim AEW Championship. The winner will likely face CM Punk at All Out 2022, or after if he is not cleared in time for the event after suffering a foot injury.
