CM Punk is expected to have been fired by AEW. The news came out in the evening of September 6, 2022, two days after his AEW Championship victory of Jon Moxley at AEW All Out 2022. The news was broken by multiple journalists and it is expected that that CM Punk would be leaving AEW with immediate effect and will vacate the AEW Championship.
CM Punk has been released by AEW just one year after his first match back in 7 years. The AEW Champion has been seeped in controversy over the last two days since he attacked The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega backstage after a expletive-laden tirade during the AEW press conference.
The AEW star has been reportedly fired by AEW, as speculated by Fightful Select and other sources. Dave Meltzer also hinted he could be fired early today, whilst many AEW wrestlers did not know how he could continue “without being fired” after his altercation.
After his press conference, where he verbally attached the Elite and Colt Cabana, CM Punk was greeted by them backstage. Details are murky but it has been reported that he attacked the group, punching one of the Young Bucks. His friend Ace Steel also bit and threw a steel chair at Kenny Omega in one shocking scene.
CM Punk vs MJF was meant to take place at Grand Slam, so that match seems up in the air if CM Punk has been fired by AEW. The Elite have yet to comment on the accusations
CM Punk also suffered an injury during AEW All Out 2022, although it may taken place either in the ring or during the fight with The Young Bucks.
