Since his surprise debut against Cody Rhodes in 2020, Eddie Kingston has been the surprise star of AEW that has taken the company by storm. From Eddie Kingston’s matches with AEW Champion Jon Moxley to his battles with Chris Jericho, he has been a top star in AEW and beloved by fans worldwide.
The main event spotlight did not come easy for Eddie Kingston. His rode to AEW Championship glory has been paved with difficulties and has not been easy for the Mad King. While he battles for the AEW Championship Eddie Kingston has not forgotten his roots, and it’s that that endears him to the fans.
Kingston struggled intensely during the pandemic. He suffered financial difficulties as the bookings dried up and he struggled to make ends meet. He even sold his ring gear to help make his mortgage payments, intending to retire from the ring entirely.
However he got the call from Tony Khan and in one day changed his fortunes forever. One promo against Tony Khan and he went from a relatively unknown wrestler to one of the best in the world. Due to hard work and innate talent, fans got on board with the Mad King and want nothing more to see than Eddie Kingston as AEW Champion.
Kingston has challenged for the championship before. He unsuccessfully challenged Jon Moxley for the AEW Championship on two occasions, losing both times but getting more over with passing segment. The pairs blood feud turned to friendship as Kingston risked his life to save Moxley from an explosion at AEW Revolution 2020.
Some of the loudest reactions in AEW go to Eddie Kingston, as the troubled but authentic star of AEW has become one of the most popular wrestlers in the world. Chants of “Eddie, Eddie, Eddie” ring around the arena whenever he is in the ring.
Eddie Kingston will be AEW Champion one day. At least, a former TNA star and friend of Kingston certainly thinks so.

Many people believe that Eddie Kingston will become the AEW Champion one day, including former TNA star Homicide.
On an episode of the Battleground Podcast, Homicide spoke about Eddie Kingston and how he thinks the Mad King will become AEW Champion. He also clarifies he does not mean the TNT or Tag Titles, but the AEW World Championship which is fitting of Eddie Kingston’s incredible talent.
In the interview, Homicide said about Eddie Kingston;
“I’m so happy for him. He’s getting his flowers and I’m very, very confident that he’s going to be the next AEW Champion of the world. I’m not talking about the secondary belt or the tag belt. I’m talking about he’s going to be the number one man of that company. I’m really happy for this dude. He deserves it,”
Eddie Kingston isn’t set to fight for the AEW Championship just yet. He is set to team with Santana, Ortiz and the Blackpool Combat Club in a match against the Jericho Appreciation Society at AEW Double or Nothing 2022.
