Jay White vs Kenny Omega at Forbidden Door next match confirmed for show?

With Jay White’s Forbidden Door opponent a hot topic, one name has come out of the blue as his opponent for the cross promotion show.

According to the Super J-Cast podcast, Jay White vs Kenny Omega is the match set to take place at Forbidden Door later this month. The hosts say they have heard “whispers” that Kenny Omega will take on Jay White at the AEW x NJPW show, in his first match in months.

Kenny Omega has been out injured since Full Gear 2021, where he dropped the AEW Championship to Adam Page. He had long been suffering from a multitude of injuries ,including Vertigo, and needed an extended length of time off from wrestling to heal up as best he could.

Despite huge injuries, he was still one of the best wrestlers in the world, and put on incredible matches with wrestlers like Orange Cassidy, Adam Page and Bryan Danielson. His return was speculated to be anywhere from February all the way to the end of 2022, so a return at Double or Nothing 2022 would be a huge surprise to wrestling fans.

Jay White has been searching for an opponent for the big show after winning the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship from Kazuchika Okada just last week at Dominion. He has already ruled out matches against Adam Page and Adam Cole, and there seems like no other main event stars for him to face at Forbidden Door.

Bryan Danielson vs Zack Sabre Jr has been confirmed for the event, so the only main event AEW star to face would be a returning Kenny Omega. The pair previously battled over the IWGP United States Championship, in a match that White claimed drove Omega “out of New Japan“.

Jay White and Kenny Omega are two of the best wrestlers on the planet. Even with months and months out of the ring, the Best Bout Machine and Switchblade would definitely put on a match of the year candidate and have the crowd louder than they’ve ever been, especially if Omega makes a surprise return at the event.

Jay White vs Kenny Omega will join a host of matches already announced for AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, which include;

  • Jon Moxley vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi for the Interim AEW World Championship
  • Thunder Rosa vs. Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s Championship
  • Will Ospreay vs. Orange Cassidy for the IWGP U.S. Championship
  • Pac vs. Miro vs. two TBA in a four-way to become the first AEW All Atlantic Champion
  • Minor Suzuki, Chris Jericho, and Sammy Guevara vs. Wheeler Yuta, Shota Umino, and Eddie Kingston in a six-man tag
