Cody Rhodes as new WWE 2K23 Cover Star Revealed?

As previously reported, Cody Rhodes was almost part of the WWE 2K22 DLC. Cody Rhodes returned to WWE at Wrestlemania 38 and the developers of the game (Take-Two Interactive) tried hard to include The American Nightmare as part of the game.

However, Cody Rhodes was sadly not included in the game as the team simply did not have the time to include him as part of the roster, due to the development of the countless other DLC characters set to be added to WWE 2K22.

According to Sports Gamers Online, WWE knew since February that Cody Rhodes was returning to the company. They pitched the idea of a special DLC package featuring Cody Rhodes after “WrestleMania 38” in April.

The report cited “a person close to the developmental team,” who claimed that “WWE tried, but it was quickly shot down”, due to the time taking to create WWE characters was too much for the development team.

This would have been a huge addition for the game. Fans often complain about WWE games having outdated rosters (WWE 2K22 has a number of AEW stars in the game, for example) so adding a recent debut would have done a lot to alleviate those concerns.

Adding Cody Rhodes to WWE 2K22, including his entrance, moves, model and terrible tattoo would have been a lot of work for the development team on such short notice.

Luckily for the fans, he will be included in WWE 2K23. We could even see Cody Rhodes as the WWE 2K23 cover star if recent tweets are to be believed

Cody Rhodes WWE 2K23

There have been talks about adding Cody Rhodes in WWE 2K22, although as noted before they eventually became nothing.

However, there have been many rumours as to who the cover star for WWE 2K23 will be. Obvious choices like Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and even Steve Austin have been floated around.

However, one outside of the box choice for the WWE 2K23 cover could be Cody Rhodes aka The American Nightmare.

Rhodes returned to Wrestlemania this April after 6 years away and immediately became a top babyface in WWE. He is also an avid video game player, most notably a fan of the Legend of Zelda series.

Cody Rhodes as WWE 2K23 cover star would be a great change from the usual and show that WWE were fully behind the son off Dusty Rhodes. The former TNT Champion was suggested as the cover star on Twtter by many, including wrestling podcaster James Stewart.

Stewart floated around the idea of Cody Rhodes being on the cover of WWE 2K23, the next instalment in the divisive WWE 2K franchise.

Cody Rhodes saw the post and replied with one of his own;

 I don’t know the talented folks at @WWEgames – but I’m a pretty decent gambler and I would bet they’re working very hard on something special for pro wrestling fans

Cody Rhodes would join stars like John Cena, Rey Mysterio and Daniel Bryan to have featured on the cover of a WWE game. It would be a first cover for him as he left AEW before they could release their upcoming game AEW Fight Forever, of which he was likely to be a part of the cover art for.
