John Cena left WWE to focus on his Hollywood career, and is limiting himself to only being a part-time wrestler going forward for WWE. John Cena has starred in a number of projects recently, including as part of the latest Fast & Furious movie, and as Peacemaker in The Suicide Squad movie and it’s accompanied spin-off, also named Peacemaker.
The 16 time WWE have been starring in movies since 2006’s The Marine, in which the then-WWE Champion starred as former Marine John Triton. However, his first appearance in a move was in the WCW-backed movie Ready to Rumble, starring former WCW Champion David Arquette. He was a background character in a scene in a gym, and was before he had decided to start his career as a wrestler.
However, while he has left WWE for the time being, John Cena has not retired from WWE or wrestling completely. The 16-time world champion revealed in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres that he is not done with WWE just yet, and he considers Vince McMahon‘s company his “home”.
“I will tell everybody watching, I’m not done with WWE by a long shot. That’s my home, I love it. I was able to go back during the summer for a few months and entertain audiences when they welcomed audiences back to arenas and I’ve far from had my last performance.“ SOURCE
According to PWInsider, Cena left WWE after Summerslam to continue filming movies, and currently WWE have no plans to bring him back in the foreseeable future. He did not make an appearance at Wrestlemania 38, WWE’s two night event which is the biggest show of the year, and he is currently not scheduled to make any WWE appearances at the moment.
John Cena left WWE because he wanted to follow The Rock’s footsteps in becoming a huge star in Hollywood. The Rock is joining John Cena in the DC Universe when he takes the role of Black Adam in the upcoming movie of the same name, although he already has considerably higher profile than John Cena.
However in the grand scheme of things, did John Cena leave WWE? Yes, he left for Hollywood but it is not forever. He will be back eventually for more matches, maybe even for John Cena vs Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania 39, although currently that has not been confirmed.
