WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has announced he has signed an extension with AEW, keeping him with AEW until 2024.
Jim Ross was one of the most exciting signings by AEW in 2019, with the former WWE commentator being regarded as the greatest of all time behind the desk. He has called more classic WWE moments than anyone else and is regarded as the voice of a generation.
In the latest episode of his Grilling Jr Podcast, the 70-year old veteran of WWE and WCW told fans that he had signed a new contract with AEW for “a year and half” and revealed that is “loving what I do”.
He also heaped praise onto AEW’s President Tony Khan, who hired Ross back in 2019 and has continued to push him as the top commentator on AEW Dynamite, stating ” I appreciate Tony Khan’s confidence and his willingness to keep me on the team”.
Jim Ross’ Contract
On Grilling Jr, Jim Ross said about his AEW contract;
“I don’t think we’ve made this announcement, but I signed an extension with AEW not too long ago. I appreciate Tony Khan’s confidence and his willingness to keep me on the team and contribute.”
“We’re not going a long time, but I think I signed for about a year and a half or something like that to stay in the position I’m in. I’m just really pleased that at 70, I still have a future, and at 70, I’m still loving what I do.”
2024 would mark 50 years for Jim Ross in wrestling, an incredible anniversary for somebody who has suffered with Bell’s Palsy and the loss of his wife in recent years. Jim Ross’ golden anniversary will be a cause for celebration in AEW, and with his current form I would not be suprised to see him stick around for longer in AEW.
Talking about his 50 years in wrestling, Jim Ross said;
“I want to get to 2024. I really do. That’s 50 years in the wrestling business. Not a lot of guys can say that they’re in the same job in a fickle, crazy-ass, unpredictable business like pro wrestling for 50 years.”
Jim Ross will be on commentary for AEW’s next pay per view, AEW Double or Nothing 2022 which will be main evented by Adam Page vs CM Punk.
