AEW Collision Star Ratings By Dave Meltzer (22/7/23)

AEW Collision continued their streak of fun, entertaining shows, although with a much weaker match line-up than previous episodes.

While big stars like FTR were not advertised to appear, they did not wrestle on the show.

CM Punk was scheduled to wrestle against an unnamed opponent, adding to his record of consecutive matches on the Saturday Night Show.

He ended up wrestling in a main event tag team match, which will do well to help the AEW Collision ratings.

The lack of star power certainly affected the star ratings for the match, with the less-experienced talent being forced to follow a fantastic week that featured FTR vs Bullet Club Gold.

That match gained a 5.25 star rating from Dave Meltzer, the highest match rating in AEW Collision history.

While no match came close to that this week, it was still a fun two-hours of wrestlign for fans of All Elite Wrestling.

Bullet Club Gold vs Action Andretti & Darius Martin

After last week’s incredible bout with FTR, Bullet Club Gold picked up a deserved win, in easy fashion, on AEW Collision.

They fought against Action Andretti and Darius Martin in a real nothing match, wrestling a basic match with very little to say about it.

It likely won’t be rated by Dave Meltzer, and is one to forget for fans of AEW Collision.

  • Dave Metlzer Star Rating – TBD
  • Cagematch Rating – 5.78
  • Atletifo Rating – 1 Star

Miro vs Nick Comorato

As Miro was making his entrance, Nick Comoroto attacked him on the stage and beat him all the way to the ring.

Once they got in and the bell rang, Comoroto hit a fireman’s carry slam for a quick one-count.

Once he regained his footing, The Bulgarian Brute unleashed a huge kick before locking in the Game Over to win the match.

The bout was basically a squash, and really did nothing for Miro. It wasn’t anything that we’d already seen, and proved that Miro really needs something to sink his teeth into.

  • Cagematch Rating – N/A (match too short)
  • Atletifo Rating – 1 Star

The Acclaimed vs The House of Black (AEW Trios Championship)

In a rematch from Double or Nothing 2023, The Acclaimed once again had their chance against the House of Black for Trios Gold.

They spent the last two months fighting their way back into contendership, as Max Caster, Anthony Bowens and Billy Gunn beat all comers, en route to Malakai Black and co.

The match was similar to their previous bout, and frankly disappointed slightly.

House of Black dominated the match, even interrupting Max Caster’s rap before the match.

The match end was abrupt, and even teased a retirement for Billy Gunn – something that came out of nowhere and that nobody wanted to see.

House of Black vs The Acclaimed only lasted 4 minutes, which meant it is not eligible to be rated by Cagematch (nor will it get a star rating from Dave Meltzer.

  • Dave Metlzer Star Rating – N/A
  • Cagematch Rating – N/A (match too short)
  • Atletifo Rating – 1.5 Star

Skye Blue vs Taya Valkyrie

Skye Blue admitted before the match that it was an honor to wrestle Taya Valkyrie.

She revealed that a young Skye Blue was inspired by the former WWE star when training, and hoped to prove herself with a victory over the legend.

Due to Skye Blue’s likability, Taya worked heel for the match, and put on a nice little performance in the sole women’s match on the card.

Despite what the crowd wanted, Taya Valkyrie won the match by hitting Skye Blue with the Road to Valhalla, giving her one of few big wins on TV.

  • Cagematch Rating –
  • Atletifo Rating – 2 Stars

Christian Cage and Ricky Starks vs. CM Punk and Darby Allin

The impromptu main event that was set up in the opening segment saw CM Punk teaming with Darby Allin to take on the duo of Christian Cage and Ricky Starks.

CM Punk interupted Ricky Starks opening promo, before Darby Allin and Christian Cage (with TNT Champion Luchasaurus) joined the fray.

This combined two rivalries, as Darby Allin is also set to take on Luchasaurus at All Out 2023.

This was the best match of the night, which seemed obvious given the star power wrestling in this match.

  • Dave Metlzer Star Rating – TBD
  • Cagematch Rating – 6.78
  • Atletifo Rating – 3 Stars
