Alex Shelley has named Impact Wrestling star Trey Miguel as the “future of the company”, heaping praise on the young star.
Shelley is set to defend his Impact World Championship against Trey Miguel at Impact 1000, and has been building up the 29-year-old star in the build up to that bout.
Miguel is currently one half of the Impact Tag Team Championships (alongside Zachary Wentz), and could move into the main event with a victory over Shelley in the biggest match of his career.
While speaking to Jeremy Lambert and Joel Pearl on “In The Weeds” (Fightful), Alex Shelley named Trey Miguel’s journey to the top as “profound”, labelling the 29-year-old as the “future of the company” for Impact Wrestling.
“Trey’s journey is a profound one. He is somebody who I met when I first came back to IMPACT during the pandemic.“
“Right away, I gravitated towards him. From then on, we became friends, but also partners, and he credits me with a lot of his ‘university-level training,’ which I think is really cool.“
“To me, that’s an honor, to be able to have fingerprints on guys. He’s going to be the future of this company, one way or another. X-Division, Tag division, Heavyweight division…World division? “
“I’m so proud of him. Having persevered in a lot of ways, and granted, he behaves differently now, but at the same time, to face everything head-on and tackle all the odds he has, deserves nothing but respect,”
Trey Miguel and Zachary Wentz recently won the Impact World Tag Team Championship, defeating the welsh duo of Mark Andrews and Flash Morgan Webster to win the belts.
They will defend their titles against the Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin) at Impact Victory Road 2023, before Miguel challenges Shelley for the Impact World Championship at Impact 1000.
