CM Punk Says Kofi Kingston Should Have Been WWE Champion “10 Years Ago”

CM Punk has heaped praise on Kofi Kingston, claiming the WWE star should have won the WWE Championship “10 Years Ago”.

The New Day member finally achieved his dream of becoming WWE Champion at WrestleMania 35.

Dubbed “KofiMania”, he beat the odds by pinning Daniel Bryan to win his first (and so far, only) WWE Championship.

This came after over a decade of struggle and failed pushed in the WWE, that led fans to wonder if Kofi Kingston would ever ben WWE Champion.

This also made Kofi Kingston one of the first black WWE Champions in history.

One person who was thrilled to see Kofi Kingston win the WWE Championship was his friend and former travelling companion CM Punk, who had some choice words to say about his title win at WrestleMania 35.

CM Punk has revealed that he thought Kofi Kingston should have won the WWE Championship a decade before he was given the title.

Kingston was being pushed as a main event face in 2009, before his push was stopped by Randy Orton for making a mistake in the match.

Following his victory at WrestleMania 35, Kofi Kingston finally became WWE Champion. This delighted CM Punk, who lamented the WWE not pushing Kofi earlier in his career.

Speaking at the Starrcast III event, CM Punk said:

“Some of my broadcasting duties nowadays, I work for a stadium network. That must have happened like that weekend, and I was there on a Monday filling in for one of them when they brought that up.” CM Punk said,

“They asked me about it, and I said, ‘Man, it’s so [ __ ] awesome looking at where Kofi is because I know he’s got two kids. That’s probably just so rad that it happened now.'”

“But my first comment was, ‘It should have happened 10 years ago, you know?’

“But, you know, it might be better for him that it happened now because his kids get to see it, his kids get to enjoy it, and I think that’s probably the best thing in the world for him.”

Sadly, Kofi Kingston’s WWE Championship reign ended with one of the worst title matches of all time.

He defended his championship against Brock Lesnar on the 20th Anniversary of Smackdown, which could have been a match that made Kingston a legend.

Sadly, like CM Punk at Summerslam 2013, Kofi Kingston lost to Brock Lesnar in the main event of Smackdown.

This match lasted just 7 seconds, and was a complete waste of KofiMania.
