Edge Set To Retire In WWE Show In Toronto?

WWE Hall of Famer Edge picked up a big win over Finn Balor at WrestleMania 39, but it looks like it could his last big event in the WWE.

Despite having some legendary moments in the last few years, Edge looks set to hang up his boots this year, at one of the WWE’s next shows on Toronto.

The Canadian star grew up in Toronto, Ontario in Canada, and looks to want to end his career in his home town, according to recent reports.

In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer commented on Edge saying he’s looking to retire at a show in Toronto, Canada, potentially within the next year.

The former WWE and World Heavyweight Champion has been speaking about his retirement recently, over a decade after he first was forced to retire due to neck injuries.

Writing in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer commented on the backstage talk about Edge retiring, and a potential tag team reunion with Christian.

“Edge this week talked retirement in a lot of places. Basically he noted that he’s turning 50 (birthday is 10/30) and had said last year publicly that he was looking to retire this year when his contract expires.

“He said he wants his last match in Toronto. There is no PPV show scheduled right now for Toronto, but said he would retire just doing a show in Toronto more than he’d want to retire at next year’s Mania because to him, he started in Toronto and that’s where he wants to end it.

“Behind-the-scenes there was talk of Edge and Christian wanting to team together for one last time or run but we don’t know Christian’s contract length and if it would be possible.

“Edge signed a three-year-deal for $3 million per year in early 2020 and likely the time was extended due to injuries but would be up later this year.

“Tony Khan had approached him while he was retired to come to AEW, but WWE made the bigger offer and he went back to WWE at the time.”

Edge has seemed more keen to end his career in Canada. He said in 2022 that he wanted to return to Canada one more time in his career, and it looks like a WWE live event in Toronto could be the last time we see Edge in a WWE ring.

August 18, 2023 is the next time WWE will tape Smackdown in Toronto, so this may be the show we see Edge’s last match in WWE and say goodbye to the Rated-R Superstar for the final time as an active wrestler.

Edge & Christian Reunion

Some people have theorised that, when he does leave WWE, Edge will sign for AEW.

Edge has always said that he wanted to reunite with his best friend before he retired. Prior to being forced to hang up his boots in 2011, he had planned to wrestle for one more year, teaming with Christian before wrestling him in his last match at WrestleMania 28.

AEW would provide more options for final dream matches for Edge and Christian. The duo could recreate some of their legendary matches with The Hardy Boyz, 25 years later, but also face some more contemporary stars.

Battles against FTR, the Young Bucks and The Lucha Bros would provide some incredible matches for Edge and Christian in AEW.

A feud with The Acclaimed would be thoroughly entertaining also, whilst they could put over The Gunns as the tag team of the future.
