Kenny Omega recently named Kurt Angle as one of the best wrestlers ever, claiming that he “studies” Angle when he wants to become even better in the ring.
These comments were humbling toward the Olympic gold medallist, who retired from the ring in 2018 after a disappointing match with Baron Corbin.
Kenny Omega said in a Tweet, “I don’t study myself when I want to learn, I study Kurt. He’s the best for a reason. I take the L — but it’d be a heck of a match.”
Kurt Angle, flattered by the comments, replied to the claims on the latest episode of The Kurt Angle Show. The WWE Hall of Famer was full of praise for Omega, wondering why he was never picked up by WWE.
“You know what, someone like Kenny Omega… the impact he has on wrestling today, how good he is… I mean, I think he’s one of the best today without a doubt.
It’s amazing to say that about me, it’s a complete honor. I mean, I’ve kept my eyes on this kid for the last 10 years, wrestling over Japan, everywhere else but the WWE.
And I’m surprised WWE never picked him up. I don’t even know if he wanted to go to WWE because I think if WWE really wanted, or if he really wanted to go, I think WWE would have hired him.
But for some reason, he didn’t want to go there. But I respect his decision, and I just think he’s the best today.”

Despite Kurt Angle being unsure why WWE never signed Kenny Omega, they actually did. WWE signed Kenny Omega to a developmental deal in 2005, although he quit (for a number of reasons) soon after, almost retiring from wrestling.
