Jon Moxley vs Wheeler Yuta main evented the April 8 2022 edition of AEW Dynamite, and the match has gained rave reviews online since it aired. After Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, fans at the tapings raved about the match, telling everyone to tune in on Friday to see two of AEW’s best wrestlers clash inside the ring for one of the most anticipated rematches in a while.

Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson recently formed the Blackpool Combat Club along with William Regal, after the pair fought at AEW Revolution 2022 to earn each others respect. In the weeks since the pair have dominated the competition in both the singles and tag division, showcasing their brutality and in-ring talent in the most entertaining way possible.

Wheeler Yuta, pushing aside his friendship with the Best Friends (Chuck Taylor, Trent Barretta and Orange Cassidy), has tried to join the Blackpool Combat Club, offering himself to William Regal after his loss to Bryan Danielson on AEW Dynamite. Regal slapped Yuta, sending him out of the ring and back to the Best Friends, whilst giving him hope that he could one day earn his chance to join the trio in the Blackpool Combat Club.

On AEW Rampage after Jon Moxley vs Wheeler Yuta, he earned that opportunity.

Wheeler Yuta got the upper hand over Moxley at the beginning over the match, attacking him before the match by leaping from the ring to the outside.

However, the power and cunning of Moxley soon took over. He beat down Yuta, but the 25 year old star refused to give up. The ROH Pure Champion refused to stay down, even when Moxley curb-stomped Wheeler Yuta onto the steel steps and caused blood to stream down his face for the rest of the match. It was an incredible amount of blood that made Moxley look sadistic and made Yuta look like a hero.

Moxley took knees, chokes and suplex from Moxley, including from the top rope. Despite the incredible pain he was under, Wheeler Yuta gave it right back, including kicking him repeatedly in the head like Bryan Danielson and stealing Jon Moxley’s Bulldog Choke finisher, narrowly missing out on victory.

Jon Moxley helped make Wheeler a star in this match. His brutality and viciousness only proved to highlight the heart and tenacity of Wheeler Yuta, who refused to give up and give in against the former AEW Champion.

Wheeler Yuta even shocked the crowd when he kicked out of not one, but two Paradigm Shifts from Moxley. Only a select few men, including Kenny Omega and Brodie Lee, have been able to take the move from Jon Moxley and continue the match. To see Wheeler Yuta take two in this match made him seem like a top wrestler straight away.

Moxley eventually put down Wheeler with a bulldog choke, as the young star passed out after the pain from two Paradigm Shifts was too much for him. The referee called for the bell as Wheeler’s hand hit the mat, his body soaked in his own blood while Moxley’s eyes remained shocked from the resilience he had seen.

After the match, the Blackpool Combat Club entered the ring, and looked like they were about to beat down Yuta. Ready to fight them all despite the brutal match against Jon Moxley, Wheeler Yuta challenged to come at him, in one last act of defience.

Instead, William Regal offered the young star his hand, officially inviting him into the Blackpool Combat Club. The pair shook hands, and Bryan Danielson strapped Yuta’s ROH Pure Championship belt around his waist in a show of respect to his new teammate.

Jon Moxley vs Wheeler Yuta was a brilliant match. It continued Wheeler Yuta’s story of trying to be the best and never giving up, and showcased his incredible in-ring talents that made the NXT talent wonder why WWE did not sign him before AEW.

Wheeler Yuta vs Jon Moxley was a star making performance and one that has shown the AEW fans that Yuta Wheeler is not simply a midcard act to lose to the top guys anymore. He is someone to be feared in the ring and watched out for by all the champions in AEW, especially with the wisdom of William Regal, Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson behind him.
