Wrestlemania 38 was an important show for both Cody Rhodes and Brock Lesnar. The American Nightmare returned to WWE after six years spent in AEW, defeating Seth Rollins in the match of the night. Meanwhile, Brock Lesnar lost his WWE Championship in a “Winner takes all” match in the main event to perennial champion Roman Reigns.
Cody Rhodes has set his sights on Roman Reigns’ WWE Championship, with an incredible promo on Monday Night Raw. A Cody Rhodes vs Roman Reigns match looks likely, with Rhodes likely to win the championship to honour his late father Dusty Rhodes.
If Cody Rhodes does win the WWE Championship, he will need challengers for his title. Former champions like Seth Rollins, Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre will want another shot at the WWE Championship, although one former champion could command a main event match at Wrestlemania 39 and help make Cody a top star in WWE.

A match between Cody Rhodes and Brock Lesnar would be one of the biggest matches WWE could put on at this point. Cody Rhodes left WWE in 2016 and made himself a huge name in wrestling by starring in promotions like ROH, NJPW and AEW. He was a three-time TNT Champion in AEW and one of the top stars, so it was a shock when he left the company to re-sign for WWE at Wrestlemania 38.
WWE seems to be positioning Cody Rhodes as a top babyface going forward, with the former Intercontinental Champion cutting an impassioned and emotional promo on Monday Night Raw. He garnered huge reactions on Raw and Wrestlemania, and a match against a hell Brock Lesnar could be a chance to print money for WWE.
Cody Rhodes vs Brock Lesnar has the potential to make a top face in WWE for the first time in years. WWE have spent the last 10 years building up Roman Reigns as the only babyface main eventer, and nobody else has been give the chance to become “the man” in WWE (sorry Becky Lynch).
Cody Rhodes did it differently. He left, formed his own company and became a main eventer in WWE when he returned. He was the most talked about in WWE before anyone even knew he had signed a deal, and his match at Wrestlemania 38 against Seth Rollins is considered to be the best match on the card.
Cody Rhodes vs Brock Lesnar is a match that, when Cody left in 2016 after a run as the embarrassing “Stardust”, seemed like an impossible dream. But now? It seems inevitable, and I would not be surprised or upset to see Cody Rhodes beat The Beast on his run as the WWE Champion.
