Tag Team Matches That Main Event WrestleMania

Throughout the 39 years of WrestleMania, the main event match has always been the one talent strived to be a part of.

Going on last signified you were a top star in the company, and somebody the company trusted to make them as much money as possible.

The last match at The Grandaddy of them All has typically been a singles match. It’s usually a one-on-one encounter between two fierce rivals, battling it out for the WWE Championship.

However, there have been exceptions. Twice in the company’s long history, a tag team match has main evented WrestleMania. This gives four men a chance to go on last and showcases something different at The Showcase of the Immortals.

In this article, we’ll look through every WrestleMania tag team main event, and talk you through how those legendary matches came about.

Tag Team Matches That Main Event WrestleMania

Hulk Hogan & Mr. T vs Roddy Piper & Paul Orndorff (WrestleMania I)

The first WrestleMania to have a tag team match in the main event was actually the first ever WrestleMania!

The show ended with Hulk Hogan (the most popular wrestler in the world) teaming up with Mr T, an actor and star of Rocky III and the A-Team.

The duo teamed up to take on the biggest heels in the company. Hall of Famers “Rowdy” Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff were on the other side of the ring, main eventing the first ever WrestleMania.

It wasn’t a bad match, per se – it was a classic 1980s match, with the hero Hulk Hogan leading his team to victory as he did so many times during his time on top of the WWF.

However, it was formulaic, and Piper had to carry Mr T through his part of the bout. He did bring huge eyes to the show, and Mr T helped make the tag team main event one of the most successful matches in WWE history.

Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn vs The Usos (WrestleMania 39: Night 1)

38 years after the first WrestleMania main event, a tag team match closed one of the nights at WrestleMania 39.

The main event of WrestleMania 31 Night 1 saw the culmination of the rivalry between Sami Zayn and The Bloodline – and in spectacular fashion.

Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens main evented the first night of WrestleMania 39 Night 1, in a history-making tag team bout against The Usos.

The huge victory in the main event of WrestleMania was the culmination of a multi-decade long story, that saw the pair go from the dank gyms in Montreal, all the way to the main event of WrestleMania.

From their tag teams and battles as Kevin Steen and El Generico, all the way to their triumph over The Usos, the two Canadian’s career have been intertwined, with this being the perfect way for them to end WrestleMania 39.

For only the second time, a tag team match was the last match of a WrestleMania show.

The first was at WrestleMania 1, when Hulk Hogan teamed with Mr T to take on Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff.

Sami Zayn teamed with Kevin Owens in the WrestleMania 39 Night 1 main event, which was Zayn’s first, and Kevin’s second, time in the last match on the show.

This is the last time Kevin Owens main evented WrestleMania, and this article will be updated if he main events any more WrestleMania events.

Sami Zayn, along with Kevin Owens, also ran in to the main event of WrestleMania 39, Night 2, assisting Cody Rhodes to fight off the Usos in his match against Roman Reigns.
